Picton Local Business Reviews - The Dog and Frog Cafe
Picton Business Reviews
Date visited: 26th April 2008
It was good to get out of the cold the day I visited the Dog and Frog Café for a
coffee. The temperature was warm inside and the atmosphere, relaxed.
This was my first visit for a long time to this particular Café as I mainly go to the
cafés on London Quay simply for the view out into Picton Harbour and the
Queen Charlotte Sound.
First impressions on entering reminded me of a time in small town New Zealand
when the idea of cafés rather than tea shops had only just caught on in New
Zealand and I felt at ease sitting in the front window sipping my warming drink.
There is nothing pretentious about the Dog and Frog. What you see is what you
get. Good honest fare at realistic, affordable prices. If your use to the cafés of
Auckland's Queen Street or Wellingtons Lampton Quay then you will be
disappointed as there is no shiny chrome and mirrored glass with fern frond
salad at $20 a pop on the menu to tempt you. Pies, sandwiches, scones,
muffins, slices are the norm here. All made on the premises of course.
The coffee is good, the menu is extensive enough for any appetite and the
service friendly and efficient. There is also a nice outdoor seating area between
the footpath and High Street.
If your passing by, pop into the Dog and Frog. You wont be disappointed.
